Last weekend I designed and built a dipole for 8MHz, simply two end insulators and a centre T with wire in between! I terminated the wire at the T direct to some low loss 50 Ohm coax and connected direct to the FDM-S2 receiver. By 4pm on the Sunday I was actually surprised how well the antenna performed and continued to log stations not normally received, namely the SFO and Tokyo on 10MHz, Shanwick nicely on 6MHz and unexpectedly, Cayenne on 8855kHz.
Overall, with my experience using the Wellbrook Loop I thought the dipole out performed it on 6, 8, 10, 11 and 13MHz bands but was noticeably poor on 5MHz. Maybe some work to do in getting it higher above the roof line.
