A while ago I blogged about wanting to catch a transmission from the flight that services the Falkland Islands from the UK. This is normally a leased RAF A332 MRTT Voyager aircraft operated by AirTanker and flies twice a week from Brize Norton via Ascension to the Falkland Island.
While I have yet to establish a likely HF circuit that would deliver that communication I have noted today the use of CPDLC while on the Falkland Island to Ascension leg. With the advances being made in recovering ADS messages from the Inmarsat satellites these messages are now being shared through PlanePlotter.
The likelyhood of receiving HF comms from this flight now hinges solely on listening at the right time when the flight enters the Dakar Oceanic Control Area (OCA) either from the north or soon after takeoff from Ascension.
I will hear this flight!Read More
